Mechanic jailed seven years for stealing a motor bike

Francis Owusu, a 22-year-old mechanic who stole an unregistered motor-bike at Dormaa Ahenkro and sold it in Cote d’Ivoire for GHC 800, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment on his own plea.

Police Inspector Abraham Oduro, prosecuting told a Dormaa Ahenkro Circuit Court presided over by Mr Alexander Osei Tutu that the complainant, Sumaila Ahmed was a businessman at Nkrankwanta where the accused also lived and worked.

He said on December 11, last year, the complainant visited his sick father at Dormaa Ahenkro and parked the moter-bike at Dormaa Ahenkro Zongo but returned to realised that it had been stolen.

The prosecutor said complainant had information that the accused was riding the motor-bike towards Nkrankwanta, therefore took another motor-bike and chased the accused to Diabaa. The convict ran into the bush when he saw the complainant but was arrested two days later and handed over to the police.

Moro Zakaria aka, Mbaa 22, a mechanic has also been sentenced to 40 months imprisonment on his own plea for stealing a motor-bike at Nkrankwanta.

Police Inspector Nelson Fumey told the court that the complainant, Abu Dramani, a student on December 21, last year parked his motor-bike but the following day realised the lock had been broken and the motor-bike stolen.

He said upon enquiries, the complainant was informed by a friend of the convict that Dramani had confided in him he would steal the motor-bike and when he was arrested he said he had given the motor-bike to a friend at Dame, a border community in Cote d’Ivoire.
