Mechanic jailed 13 years for defiling a 14-year-old girl

Bolgatanga, June 06, GNA – A Bolgatanga Circiut Court on Tuesday, sentenced Innocent Ibrahim 27, a mechanic on his own plea to 13 years imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl.

Police Inspector Samuel Kpoglo, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Justice Osei Kwame, that on December 24, last year, the victim’s mother, Mrs Lenia Cecelia Kumaya, a Customs Officer stationed at Paga near Navrongo in the Upper East Region, discovered that her daughter was missing and reported the matter to the Paga police. He said police investigations revealed that the accused eloped with the victim to Gyato-Kura, a village near Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region for four months.

The prosecution said personnel from the Bolgatanga police traced the accused to the village and was arrested together with the victim to Bolgatanga.

He said on March 23, this year, the victim was sent to Navrongo War Memorial Hospital and after examination, it was realised that she had been defiled.

Police Inspector Kpoglo said after further investigations the accused was charged with the offence.
