Measures in place to attend to emergency cases – Director

Dr Jacob Abebrese, Medical Director at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital, said members of the public should not panic when there was the need to access emergency care at the hospital.

He said the facility had put in place measures to guard against untimely deaths as a result of the strike being embarked on by the Ghana Medical Association.

Journalists were at the hospital to ascertain the impact of the strike on patients. He explained that though the doctors’ strike continued unabated, there was no cause for alarm as the management had negotiated with some doctors who had volunteered to attend to emergencies.

Some of these emergency cases include women in labour and doctors are always on standby at the maternity ward, Dr Abebrese said.

At the hospital, patients were seen hanging around while a few nurses were attending to some of them.
