The Municipal Chief Executive of the Offinso Municipality, Hon Baafour Kese-Amankwaa has reportedly seized about 200 dust bins supplied by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to facilitate sanitation in his area.
The action of the MCE has led to apathy by the people in the National sanitation exercise, as about 200 waste bins are being kept at his residence.
The MEC has also being accused of halting a street lighting project, which is being financed by the Assembly under its Internally Generated Fund thus plunging a number of streets in darkness.
Reacting to the allegations, MCE Kese-Amankwaa admitted to keeping the waste bins in his house, because he wanted to design the project in such a way that rubbish will be collected from households, thereby residents paying a token to the service provider as a means of revenue generation .
He explained that the Municipal Assembly is piloting a waste collection exercise in a town of Asikafo Amantem before it is extended to other parts of Offinso. According to the MCE, the piloting will be over in a month’s time.
Commenting on the street light project, Kese-Amankwaa noted that a week before the aborted District Assembly Elections, there were complaints by some members of the Assembly, accusing him of selectively supplying the street lights to Assemblymen who sympathized with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to light up their electoral areas, hence his decision to stop the distribution until after the elections in other not to politicize his action.
