MCE advices students to combine sports with academic performance

Akyem Oda, Aug. 03, GNA – Ms Ophelia Koomson, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) on Wednesday challenged sports boys and girls in Senior High Schools (SHS) to combine sports with high academic performance to ensure a brighter future for themselves. She noted that gone were the days when some sportsmen and women relegated academic knowledge to the background, adding that high academic qualification could not only make them improve on their performance but make them more marketable in their chosen professions. Ms Koomson gave the advice when Master Joel Acquah, captain of the Atweaman SHS football team, presented a football trophy the school won at the 20th edition of the National Milo Sports Festival held in Koforidua at a ceremony at Akyem Oda.

She said that sports with its universal appeal helps nurture raw talents, provides guidance and imparts values which when appropriately applied could be of immense help for future success in life. Ms Koomson advised heads of SHS to prepare their students adequately for sporting events and desist from refusing to participate in events such as the Sports Festivals.

The MCE commended the Atweaman football team for making the Municipality proud by their feat and gave the assurance that the Assembly would reward them accordingly. She urged the players not to rest on their oars but to train harder to win more laurels for the School and the Municipality in future events.

Captain Acquah was full of praise for the words of encouragement from the MCE and indicated their readiness to compete with schools ion and outside the country. 03 Aug. 11
