May’s Day Care and Educational Centre has held its 25th Anniversary graduation ceremony on the theme: “Quality Education; a Gain for all” in Accra over the weekend.
In all, a total of 41 pupils and students graduated from the Day care class, Junior High Secondary class and the Pre-school Caregivers class. Mrs Efua Bram Larbi, the Director of the Centre, urged the graduates to ensure that the quality education they received from the school would be evident in their daily lives.
“Let everyone, who comes into contact with you gain something beneficial and let your families and the community gain positively from the quality of education you have received,” she added.
She said, as part of the school’s 25th Anniversary celebration, a number of activities have been initiated, including a health walk; inter-schools quiz competition, inter-schools parade competition and a thanksgiving service.
She said the Centre has donated used clothing, food stuffs and stationary to the Nyamekye Christian Home Orphanage and also held a grand African Union Day celebration to showcase the rich cultural heritage of about 14 selected African countries.
Other activities scheduled for the celebration are a tour of the United Kingdom, a seminar and dinner dance and a Christmas fair and Carrols night services. The Director said one of the challenges facing the school was the terrible condition of the roads leading to the school, however, management has contacted the authorities and plans were far advanced to ensure it is fixed.
She said school has planned to construct a proper sports field, a hostel facility as well as expanding the number of classrooms and laboratories. She appealed to benevolent organisations, potential business partners to contact the school and identify ways they could contribute towards the development of the school.
Mr Khaleed el Hossiny, Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Egypt in Ghana expressed the hope that Ghana and Egypt would corporate and collaborate to improve on education in their respective countries. He said to achieve quality education; there should be conducive environment, with rich content for teaching and learning.
Mr Eric Don Arthur, a parent, urged fellow parents to develop interest in their children education and spend time with them. “Parents should not leave the development of their children solely to teachers or educational authorities,” he added.
He urged the graduates to continue working hard to advance in their education. Special awards for academic excellence were given to the deserving pupils and students. May’s educational centre started in September 1989 as a day care centre with only 25 children in only two classrooms.
