May Day celebration on May 1

Accra April 23, GNA – This year’s National May Day celebration would take place at the Independence Square in Accra as well as the 10 regions on Saturday, May 1.

A statement issued by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Friday and signed by Mr Kwaku Darko Aferi Head of the Public Affairs Department, said for the first time, the programme would involve not only members of the TUC but members of other labour organizations.

The theme for the celebration is “Social protection and economic development”. May Day, considered as workers’ solidarity day throughout the world is celebrated to mark achievements and also review shortcomings of workers. Some workers, who excelled in their performance last year both at the regional and national levels would be awarded.

As part of this year’s May Day activities a quiz programme involving contestants from the five universities would take place on Sunday, May 2.
