The former mayor of Kumasi, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has denied that a group linked to him was involved in violence during last Thursday?s parliamentary elections in Asawase.
The NDC alleged at a post-election press conference that the group known, as ?Maxwell Boys? is one of several deployed by the NPP to intimidate voters and disrupt the poll.
Mr. Jumah who is now MP for Asokwa admits his association with the group but says the allegations of violence by members of the group are false.
He says the group was formed 2 years ago to mobilize unemployed youth especially in the Zongo areas to acquire vocational skills and not to perpetrate violence.
?There are so many wild allegations but there is no proof that suggests that the perpetrators of the violence were members of Maxwell Boys,? he says.
He says the NDC is making wrong accusations and counter allegations that are far from the truth.
Mr. Jumah says those making the allegations are rather those brandishing the weapons and perpetrating the violence. And says he has proof of their activities.
According to the MP for Asokwa, the pick-ups found at the polling stations were used to convey food to polling agents.
