Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad Khalifatul Masih V, Head of Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, has appointed Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, as Acting Ameer of the Ghana Mission.
His appointed becomes necessary after the sudden death of Maulvi Dr. Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary In-Charge of Ghana on Sunday June 22, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after protracted illness.
A statement signed by Ahmad Suleiman Anderson, General Secretary of the Ghana Mission and copied to Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday said, until his appointment, Maulvi Bin Salih was the Naib Ameer, (Deputy Head II) of the Mission.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the GNA, Maulvi Bin Salih said the late Ameer was a positive character who was supporting not only members of the Mission, but the nation at large.
He said Maulvi Adam instituted a Religious Founding Day, which served as a platform for all Muslim Faith Based Groups in Ghana to discuss their challenges and how to find solutions to them.
Maulvi Bin Salih described the late Ameer as a man of peace and sincerity and a person who was facilitating the dissemination of information of all Muslim Groups in Ghana.
Meanwhile, more important personalities are trooping into the Mission Headquarters at Osu, Accra to sign the book of condolences in honour of the late Ameer.
The first person to sign the book was Dr. Henry Seidu Danaa, Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs who described the Ameer’s demise as a big gap for Ghana to fill in terms of peace negotiations and national unity.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawmia, Election 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party described late Maulvi Adam as a father.
He said the Ameer was an epitome of peace and that his appointment to the National Reconciliation Council and the National Peace Council was not a surprise.
“We are here today to honour his memory and pray for him and would continue to pray for him.”
Alhaji Hamidu Sulemana, Out-going Minister of Roads and Highways noted that the late Ameer was an embodiment of peace and would be forever remembered for his wisdom, love and hardworking.
He said Maulvi Adam was much particular about the development of the Upper West Region, especially the education of girls, health and agriculture and the growth of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Religion.
Mathias Asoma Puozaa, Member of Parliament for Daffiama Bussei-Issa and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education said the late Ameer made him appreciate and fell in love with the Muslim religion.
He said the late Maulvi Adam was instrumental in making a lot of positive improvement in female education in the region.
