Maulvi Adam says religious and moral education should be taught

Accra, Dec. 12, GNA – Maulvi Wahab Adam, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ghana Conference of Religious for Peace (GCRP), on Wednesday added his voice to the call on government to bring back religious and moral education as a core subject at the basic Junior and Senior High levels.

He said children were at the most crucial formative period during the time of basic education and suggested that for the sake of discipline, heads of educational institutions and boards should be appointed with the consent of religious bodies who own the institutions. A statement in Accra by Maulvi Adam, the Ameer of the Ahamadyia Muslims Mission, called for dialogue between representatives of GCRP and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the resolution of matters arising out of the new education reform.

Maulvi Adam said for the effective administration and supervision of educational institutions, the General and Regional Managers of education should be given due recognition by the GES and its affiliates. He urged government to address bottlenecks in the computerised placement of students in Senior High Schools. He commended government for the political courage to introduce the new educational reforms which he said touched every level of the education front.
