Kumasi, March 23, GNA – Mr Coleman De-Graft Musah, Headteacher of Ahmed Uwaisi Islamic Basic School in Kumasi, has called on mathematics teachers in Islamic schools to re-double their efforts to help their pupils to excel in the subject.
Speaking at the end of an inter-regional Islamic primary school level quiz competition in Kumasi on Tuesday, he said participants’ performance in mathematics was not encouraging. Alhaji Amadu Abudu, Ashanti Regional Manager of the Islamic Education Unit, urged parents to take positive interest in the education of their children.
He commended the participants for their efforts and commended Muslim Relief Association of Ghana (MURAG), the sponsors of the competition, whom he said has been helping in the development of Islamic education in the region.
Ashanti Region, led by Hussein Abdallah of Azaria Islamic Primary School and Ishaak Ousman of Ghana Muslim Mission primary won the competition with 123 points.
They took home 400,000 cedis as their prize. The second position was taken by Eastern region with 99 points, picking a prize of 300,000 cedis, Volta Region placed third with 75 points, picking 200,000 cedis with Brong-Ahafo Region coming fourth and has 100,000 cedis.
