Massive Fraud In SSS Admissions

The Independent has uncovered massive fraud in the admission of Junior Secondary School (JSS) students into Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) this year.

Investigations have revealed that some newly established private Senior Secondary Schools, with the connivance of some workers at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), managed to pick the result cards of some prospective SSS students who made very good grades before the stipulated date of 8th and 9th September, 2004, when heads of assisted secondary schools were expected to meet to select students.

In one instance, this paper discovered that an admission letter purported to have come from a certain Gushiea Secondary School at Tema, to a girl (name withheld) who had aggregate eight and was duly qualified for her first choice school, St. Mary?s Secondary, was posted on 8th September 2004, the very day that the heads of the assisted secondary schools started the selection exercise. The letter got to the girl?s parents on the 15th of September, one clear week after the selection exercise.

Shocking, when an uncle of the poor girl rang the telephone numbers on the said letter, nobody unanswered, although the call went through. One lady who showed this reporter the result slip of her ward who scored an incredible grad 1 in ten subjects, also said her daughter?s name was missing from the list of students admitted at St. Marty?s Secondary and neither was her name found on a similar list at her second choice school. The story of the two students is only a minute-fraction of the strange plague that has hit SSS admissions this year.
