Mass burial for Dabanyin accident victims

Apam (C/R), Sept. 13, GNA – A mass burial is to be held at Apam on Friday for 12 of the 14 victims of a motor accident at Gomoa Dabanyin on the Winneba Accra road on August 26, this year.

The other two, who hailed from Mumford and Gomoa Mprumem, would be buried in the hometowns.

The victims mostly fishmongers from Apam were travelling to Accra, to engage in their trading activities when a Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GR 8071V on which they were travelling collided with an on-coming foreign registered vehicle on its way to La cote d’Ivoire. Eleven of them died on the spot while three others died on admission at the Winneba Government Hospital.

Among the dead were Ama Amoaning, 52, Ekua Sasah, 21, Ama Aya, 52, Esi Tawiah, 50, Cecilia Ayittey, 54, Abena Ninson, 20, all fishmongers and Kofi Obosu, 3, Ninson’s son.

The others were, John Ampiah, 60, and Joseph Agyei Doku, 42, driver of the Benz bus.

Feverish preparations are underway to hold a mass wake keeping for the 12 at the Apam Lorry Park on September 16, before internment.
