Mason remanded for stealing water pumping machine

Asamankese, Jan. 29 GNA – A circuit court at Asamankese, on Thursday remanded Kwaku Afatsawu, a 25-year-old mason, for stealing a water pumping machine. Afatsawu pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.

Police Inspector Kate Ogyiri, told the court that the complainant owned a hiring water pumping machine. Prosecution said some time last year, a contractor building a public toilet at Asamankese, went with the accused person to the complainant to hire the machine. Insp. Ogyiri said the contractor returned the machine after completing the project. She said in June, Afatsawu approached the complainant and lied to him that the contractor had ask him to hire the machine for another project at Nankese, near Suhum and promised to return it in three days time. Insp. Ogyiri said after Afatsawu had taken the machine away, the complainant contacted the contractor to ascertain the truth only to realize that he had been deceived.

Prosecution said that on January 1, when the complainant spotted Afatsawu at Adeiso, he raised the alarm and some people assisted him to arrest the accused person. Insp. Ogyiri said during interrogation, the accused person admitted the offence and said he sold the machine to someone at Nankese for GH C80.
