Mason jailed for stealing cocoa

Akyem Oda, May 16, GNA – Kwame Adu, a 19-year-old mason who stole a quantity of cocoa valued at 130,000 cedis at Nyamebekyere in the Birim North District, was on Tuesday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Akyem Oda Magistrate court.

Adu was convicted on his own plea of guilty to a charge of stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court that on April 28 Opanin Kwasi Ampadu, a cocoa farmer at Nyamebekyere, detected that a quantity of cocoa beans he dried on his farm had been stolen.

On May 01, Ampadu put some cocoa beans on the same drying bed and watched it over night. He spotted Adu putting the cocoa beans into a sack and he was arrested and handed over to the police.
