Mason jailed for causing harm to ex-girlfriend

Accra, Sept. 29, GNA – A 27-year-old mason who beat his ex-girlfriend until she collapsed for collecting her bag from her rival was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Seth Akumanglo pleaded guilty to causing harm and the court convicted him on his own plea.

Ms. Monica Alovi, the 17-year-old complainant who was in court, had to be assisted to walk in and out of the courtroom.

The prosecution said when Ms. Alovi and Akumaglo parted company, she left her dressing bag in Akumanglo’s room.

The prosecutor said Ms. Alovi saw Akumanglo’s new fianc=E9e using the bag and she demanded that it should be returned to her. Akumanglo’s fianc=E9e refused and informed Akumanglo about the incident.

He did not take kindly to Ms Alovi’s conduct and on September 15 attacked her and subjected her to severe beatings until she collapsed. The prosecutor said she was rushed to a clinic where she was admitted for a day. On September 23, this year, Ms Alovi collapsed again and was hospitalised.
