Mason jailed 108 months over defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Alex Tetteh, has sentenced a Mason to 108 months imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Joshua Kofi Kyei, 26, had pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Obour told the court that the incident happened at Odumase in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality on January 26, this year.

The convict had sent the unsuspecting minor to draw water for him from a nearby public standpipe and as she returned, grabbed and dragged her into his room, where he sexually assaulted her.

The girl after she regained her freedom headed straight to the house to inform his senior brother and a formal report was made to the police.

Kyei was arrested and his caution statement admitted having sex with the victim but denied this was done through the use of force.
