Mason jailed 10 years for defilement

A mason, Isaac Besie, 31, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old girl by a Tarkwa Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, that the complainant, Augustina Baidoo, is related to the victim and resides in the same neighborhood with the accused at Bogoso.

Inspector Paddy said on December 12 the complainant left the victim and her siblings in the house and travelled to Tarkwa to transact a business.

He said when the complainant returned from her trip on the third day, the victim informed her that while she was going to fetch water close to the house of the accused on the day she travelled, the accused lured her to his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her and after the act, the accused told her not to tell anyone about the incident.

Chief Inspector Paddy said the complainant confronted Besie on the issue but he did not utter a word. A report was made to the police and Besie was arrested.
