Marriage Demands More Than Money – Stonebwoy

Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy has opened up about the lesser-discussed pressures of married life, describing the institution as emotionally, mentally, and financially demanding.

In an interview with Joy Prime, the Into the Future hitmaker explained that being a husband involves more than simply providing financially. He pointed out that time, attention, and emotional investment are all vital – and costly – elements of sustaining a healthy marriage.

“Interestingly, marriage is expensive, and having a wife comes with its costs,” he said. “You have to invest time, which is incredibly valuable. You need to allocate resources, which are never cheap. You must give attention, and even attention comes at a price. These are things you simply cannot buy.”

Stonebwoy, known for his socially conscious music and relatable storytelling, shared that his understanding of responsibility was shaped by his upbringing. He noted how cultural expectations continue to place a heavy burden on men to serve as the primary providers in the home.

“As a man, I grew up in a household where I witnessed responsibility firsthand,” he explained. “I understand that societal norms expect men to be caretakers. While it is a role we accept, it’s certainly not easy—and it isn’t cheap. The costs are real.”

His remarks have resonated with many Ghanaians, especially men who quietly carry the emotional and financial pressures of maintaining their homes. Stonebwoy’s honest take is being praised as a necessary contribution to broader conversations around gender roles, emotional labour, and the true demands of partnership.

As public discourse around marriage continues to evolve, Stonebwoy’s words serve as a reminder that the cost of love is not just monetary—but deeply human.
