Marketing officer jailed for stealing

Accra, Sept. 1, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra on Thursday sentenced a 31-year-old marketing officer to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing goods worth 108.3 million cedis and a cash of 32 million cedis belonging to his employers. Robert Kwofie pleaded guilty and the court convicted him accordingly.

Superintendent of Police Elizabeth Alormatu told the court that the complainant was Accountant of Wise Energy Limited, dealers in hardware, while Kwofie was in-charge of the company’s store. Superintendent Alormatu said in April 2004, Wise Energy Limited was audited and it came to light that items including plugs and lanterns worth 108.3 million cedis were missing from the company’s store. She said when Kwofie was queried about the whereabouts of the items, he informed management that the items had been displayed at an exhibition.

However, he confessed that he had sold the items. The prosecutor said Kwofie in November last year, wrote a letter to Merchant Bank, the company’s bankers, informing it that the managing director of Wise Energy had travelled and he had taken over. Kwofie signed three different cheques and withdrew 32 million cedis from the bank and squandered it.
