Market Queens Expel Male Secretary

THE NATIONAL executive of the Ghana Agricultural Products Traders Organisations (GAPTO) has given the sack to Mr. Haruna Agesheka, the organisations secretary general.

In a resolution released on January 18, this year and signed by 20 leaders from the district and regional groups, the organisation accused the former general secretary of various acts of fraud, including an unauthorised withdrawal of ?64million from the organisation’s accounts, as well as billions of cedis kept with him, representing fines, dues, special levies and registration fees since 1993.

GAPTO further accused Mr. Agesheka of refusing to account to the organisation commissions paid it by the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) and were therefore invoking the relevant sections of their constitution to effect his ouster.

The resolution finally stated that to get its administrative machine, moving again it has directed three members of its executive committee to act as an interim management committee for three months pending the reconstitution and restructuring of the organisation, whilst all documents with the former general secretary were handed over the secretariat by January 31, this year.

The resolution, copied to various government institutions, including the Regional Minister, Chief of Staff, the AMA and Food and Agriculture, was signed by market queens in okro, tomatoes, maize, etc trade from the various market centres in Ghana.
