Market Fires: Victims in K’si to be paid from today

Victims of the fire disaster that hit the Kumasi Central Market two months ago are expected to benefit from the GH¢2m government fund from Wednesday, August 14, 2013.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in collaboration with Stanbic Bank began payments to victims in Accra on Tuesday.

Victims have been asked to gather at the Jubilee Park, where payments will be made.

Sector minister Nana Oye Lithur stated on TV3’s News 360 last Sunday that all payment will be made into bank accounts of beneficiaries.

She, therefore, asked all to get bank accounts for payment to be made “as no payment will be made in cash”.

She also indicated that the monies are not to compensate victims for their loss, but to cushion them to re-start their trades.
