Mark Woyongo retires from politics after defeat

A former Interior Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central Mark Owen Woyongo, has announced his retirement in politics and disclosed that he will not be contesting any political position again.

He revealed that he was in the first instance not interested in contesting the Navrongo Central seat on the ticket of the party in 2016, but was pressured by the party to do so while they groomed someone to succeed him.

“I did not want to contest the seat again in the first place this year but there was pressure on me from the party. That is how come I contested but as fate will have it, I lost”, he said.

According to the outgoing legislator on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he is leaving the scene proud of his achievements which will better the lives of the residents of Navrongo Central after constructing 142 boreholes, roads and a number of schools.

“I feel proud about my achievements but it is not for me to rate myself but the people I represented who benefitted from the various projects I embarked on”, he emphasized.

On the future, he said he will go back to manage his Tamale-based radio station [Diamond Fm].
