Maritime Academy Given A Boost

The International Transport Federation (ITF) Seafarers Trust based in the United Kingdom has donated a quantity of electronic computers and a 33-seater Nissan bus to the Regional Maritime Academy.

Mr. Sigis Buckman, ITF representative and general secretary of the Ghana Merchant Naval Officers Association, making the presentation last week said, the good gesture by the ITF Seafarers Trust has come at a time when Ghana has just gained a place on the IMO “white list”.

He said Ghana is now internationally recognised as having complied fully with the provisions of the International Convention Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers.

Captain Aaron Turkson, principal of the academy, thanked the donors for the wonderful gesture, which has gone to make the academy obtain modern equipment suitable for teaching and learning.

He said the present equipment was so obsolete and hoped that with the whole campus on network now, the academy is poised to enhance its prestige as one of the best institutions in the world.
