The National Chief Imam on behalf of Marhaba FM, a private Zongo radio station based in Accra has donated about GHc12,000.00 to the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle -Bu Teaching Hospital to help a ten-year-old hole-in heart patient undergo surgery.
The station also donated GHc400 to the patient, Aliu Abdul Rauf’s family for his up-keep and other expenses that may crop up later.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh (Dr) Nuhu Osumanu Sharubutu whiles thanking the doctors for their role in saving lives of people also reminded them of the rewards that await them in future.
He said health is the greatest gift by the Almighty Allah, but poverty has been one of the diseases that humans are battling with each day.
Presenting the cheque to the hospital authorities and the patient’s family, Sheikh (Dr.) Sharabutu stated, the donation was to help the family of the patient who could not raise the money needed for the surgery, hence had to resort to calls of benevolent organizations.
The National Chief Imam thanked the donors for their rapid response in such situations and prayed for God’s guidance and protection for them.
On behalf of the Cardio Centre, Madam P.N.O. Helen Mingles, matron in charge of the ward, thanked the Muslim community for their numerous support to the centre and promised that the money would be put to good use.
She revealed that, Muslims through the offices of the National Chief Imam have shown concern and support to the centre over the years, and hoped such kind gestures will continue.
Among the National Chief Imam’s entourage at the short ceremony were, Sheikh Shuaib Abubakar, Sheikh Musah Abdul Qadar, Alhaji Sardauna, Chief Jimalah, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu and Alhaji Abdul Latif Abdul- Salam.
Officials from the hospital present were Dr. Abdul Samed Tanko, Head of Cardiology Unit, Dr. K. Entsua-Mensah, a surgeon at the cardio centre and Anastasia Himaas, administrator, Ghana Heart Foundation.
Also present were management and staff of Marhaba FM led by Chief Executive Alhaji Baba Sherrif.
