Many youths determine to excel despite odds-Minister

Sekondi, July 4 GNA – Mr Joseph B. Aidoo, Western Regional Minister said in spite of the several challenges facing the youth, a lot more were devoted and willing to offer voluntary services for the development of their nation.

He said this could only be achieved through commitment and discipline and urged all youths to emulate these characters.

Mr Aidoo said these at the presentation of the Head of State Awards Scheme to 105 students and youth organisations within the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis on Saturday.

He said human resource development and a revision of existing policies on education, were meant to make education meet the present needs of students and nation.

Mr Aidoo urged the youth to be cooperative in supporting government’s employment creation centres, through the President’s Special Initiatives (PSI) and the private sector.

He advised the youth to form cooperatives and access loans from the district and municipal, metropolitan assemblies.

Mr Jenkins K. Awumee, International Council Member of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, said the awards were meant to reward youths, who were disciplined, have a sense of responsibility, able to plan, tolerant, motivational and academically oriented.

Mr David Arthur, Regional Coordinator said the scheme was targeted at young people, aged between 14 and 25 years.

He said each participant decides on a programme of his choice and does not discriminate on sex, religion, family or ethnic backgrounds.
