Mantukwa Queen fined GH¢100, schnapps for misdemeanour

The Queen mother of Mantukwa near
Sunyani in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo region, Nana Amponsah
Ababio, has been fined GH¢100 and a bottle of schnapps for misdemeanour.
The fine
was imposed by the Acting Omanhene of Odumase Number One, Nana Kofi Yeboah
after the Mantukwahene, Nana Owusu Antwi Boasiako III had lodged a complaint against
her.

Briefing
the media, the Krontihene in waiting of the area, Kofi Adjei said Nana Antwi
Boasiako III was installed as chief in July this year after going through all
the required traditional and customary procedures.
He said the
royal family and the kingmakers notified the police, who in turn got further
clarification from the Odumase number One traditional council to provide
security for the installation ceremony.
Kofi Adjei
said after Nana Antwi Boasiako III had been successfully installed and outdoored,
he put in place a new Plot Allocation Committee to streamline the
indiscriminate sale of lands in the area. The new chief caused an announcement on
radio to the effect that anyone who had purchased any parcel of land should
submit receipts for verification. One major problem facing the community is the
multiple sales of lands.
Immediately
the announcement was aired, the Queen, Nana Amponsah Ababio, made a counter
announcement claiming that Nana Antwi Boasiako III, was not the chief of the
area and that he had no right to constitute a plot allocation committee.
Her action however
came as a surprise to many people in the area because all along, the Queen knew
about the installation of Nana Antwi Boasiako.
It was
after the counter announcement by the Queen that Nana Antwi Boasiako lodged a
complaint with the Odumase Number One traditional which subsequently found Nana
Amponsah Ababio guilty and accordingly fined her.
