Mankranso GNFS, Police, investigate fire incidence

Mankranso (Ash), May 15, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Police at Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South District are making efforts to get to the bottom of the seemingly bizarre circumstances under which only documents and official receipts were burnt when the offices of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) caught fire at dawn on Wednesday at Mankranso.

The fire was reported to have lasted for several hours but could not destroy items like furniture and a refrigerator among other things in the rooms.

Briefing the GNA at Mankranso, an eyewitness who claimed to be the first to detect the fire, said he was returning from a friend’s house when he sighted clouds of smoke coming out of the District Administrative block, which also housed the GHS.

He said he raised the alarm, which attracted many people who assisted in bringing the fire under control until personnel from the GNFS arrived to put it out.

A source close to the GHS accounts office said the fire did not destroy anything apart from files, documents and receipts dating from 1999 to 2000.

A police source confirmed the incident and added that investigations were underway.
