Mankessim, Sept. 8, GNA – The Mfantseman District Assembly is to spend more than four billion cedis on rehabilitation of Mankessim Market.
Phase one of the three-phased project, which involves the construction of a drainage system at a cost of 595 million cedis with funding from HIPC benefits is underway.
Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive, announced this when he and the Presiding Member Mr Frank Neequaye ,led newsmen to inspect progress of work on the first phase.
Mr Quainoo-Arthur said the second phase involving laying of pavement blocks to prevent flooding would cost 568 million cedis to be paid from the District Assemblies’ Common Fund.
He said the second phase would take-off before the end of the year. The DCE said the third phase involving the construction of concrete pavements would cost three billion cedis and work is expected to begin next year.
He said an office complex would also be put up and appealed to the market women to reciprocate the Assembly’s gesture to enhance their trading activities by paying their tools and levies voluntarily. The DCE urged them to expose traders who connived with collectors to cheat the Assembly.
