Residents of Manhyia, a suburb of Goaso in the Ahafo Region, are raising serious concerns over the lack of proper waste disposal containers in their community. The situation has led to unsanitary conditions, with heaps of refuse littering streets and open spaces, posing health and environmental risks.
According to residents, repeated appeals to the municipal authorities for the provision of waste bins have gone unanswered.
“We have nowhere to dispose of our rubbish properly. People are now dumping refuse in gutters and on empty lands. This is not healthy, especially with the rainy season here.” Said Aku, a resident.
Community members says the lack of a proper waste management system has contributed to an increase in mosquitoes and a strong stench in certain areas, particularly near the market and residential clusters. Some fear the problem could lead to an outbreak of diseases such as cholera and malaria if swift action is not taken.
According to some residents because of damaged waste containers the refuse are scattered all over there grounds .
