Manhyia extends olive branch to Journos

The Manhyia Palace has extended an olive branch to journalists in the Ashanti region following strained relations a few weeks ago.

The Journalists accused Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s courtyard of gross disrespect after some of them were allegedly manhandled on Saturday January 31, 2015 while covering the 80th anniversary of the Ashanti Confederacy.

They threatened to boycott the Palace, a situation which necessitated talks between the regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association and Manhyia.

The talks culminated in a meeting between the Journalists and Otumfuo’s elders on Friday March 13, 2015 at the Palace to iron out differences and thaw frosty relations.

The meeting was attended by Boffour Osei Hyeaman Brantuo VI, Otumfuo’s Manwerehene; Baffuo Asabere Ababio Kogyawoasu, Otumfuo’s Nsumankwaahene; Nana Kwadwo Nyantakyi III, Otumfuo’s Sanaahene; and Nana Gyimah Danso, Otumfuo’s Kyeame including Ashanti regional executives of the GJA.

Boffour Osei Hyeaman Brantuo told Starr News’ Ashanti regional correspondent Isaac Bediako after the meeting that it has never been the aim of Manhyia to frustrate the work of the media at the palace.
