Manet Company Limited has constructed a new police station at the cost of $200,000 for residents in and around the Spintex Road in Accra.
The building of the facility, which was supported by Adas Synthetic Industry, will host the Baatsona Divisional Headquarters and the Okpoi-Gonno District Headquarters to help protect lives and property around the area.
The area is home to many Accra residents, who live in apartments within the Manet Court, Regimanuel Golden Gate, Devtraco, Kasaglobal and Mariville estates, which are occupied by dozens of people.
The district also serves major industrial and commercial plants such as Coca cola, Accra Mall, and the Spintex Mall, among others.
Commissioning the facility, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, the Inspector General of Police, said the service was strategically building new divisions and districts with the objective of making the presence of the police felt in the communities.
He said the creation of more Police stations and post, were as a result of the exigencies of operational demands on the service.
Mr Alhassan said government and the police administration intervention to deal with the challenges of inadequate offices and residential apartments cannot solve all the problems, necessitating the use of public private partnership.
He said the rapid population increases and urbanization meant that government intervention alone would not help deliver the necessary support.
He appealed to benevolent individuals to assist the Police service to deliver on its mandate.
Until the commissioning of the facility on October 2, there was no such facility around the area and that compelled people with police-related issues to seek redress at the Airport Police Station and the Sakumono station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr C.T. Yohuno said the Baatsona Headquarters would help cut down on emergency response time and increase the presence of the police in the area, to help in rapid socio-economic development.
He urged the communities to form watchdog committees, as it was an effective means of fighting crime.
Mr Martin Beeko, Director of Manet Group, said the police station was built because there was none in the area, forcing residents to rely on the Airport and Sakumono Police Stations.
He was confident that the station would help in dealing with security challenges facing the community and its environs in the district.

The President of the group said her outfit was excited about the successful completion of the project, adding that, the presence of the police in the community provides a psychological peace of mind that calms the fears of residents.

Citations were presented to individuals and institutions that helped in diverse ways to support the building of the police station.
