Managing elections is tough – EC Boss

Even before she receives her baptism of “fire” in supervising her maiden general elections in the country, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs. Charlotte Osei has observed that managing elections in the country is a herculean task.

“Organizing elections in this country can be a very difficult task”, she indicated

According to her, the process involves managing people of different backgrounds, logistics, process and statistics in the wake of the bad road network in parts of the country which makes it more difficult.

She adds that the country’s infrastructure is not well developed to ease these challenges taking into account numbers of people involved in the elections which is why some challenges are encountered sometimes.

Speaking to Samson Lardy Anyenini on Newsfile on Joy FM Saturday, Mrs. Osei said in the midst of these challenges her outfit is not enthused about the slash in its proposed budget for the 2016 elections.

This she observed could affect the conduct of the elections in some way but noted that because Ghana is a developing country, it is not always the case where a department or agency gets the full sum of budgetary propositions approved.
