Man,72, captures girl, 13, for ten days

Half Assini (W/R) Jan. 7, GNA – The Half Assini District Magistrate’s Court has refused an out of court settlement in a case in which a 72-year old man at Elubo abducted and defiled a 13-year old primary four girl.

The plea of Amponsah Armah, 72, was not taken and the court remanded him in prison custody to re-appear on Jan. 13 2012.

Armah was remanded in one month’s prison custody when he made his first appearance in December last year but during his second appearance on Jan. 4 this year, some elders of the town approached to court to withdraw the case for settlement at home.

Police chief Inspector Moses Kofie told the court presided over by Mr Hans Kofi Kpogo that on Nov. 17, the victim suddenly disappeared from the Elubo Township.

He said after unsuccessful attempts by the relatives to locate the girl, they reported the matter to the Elubo police.

The prosecution said on Nov. 26, 2011 the girl who had been locked in the accused room was seen by one of her classmates when she came out from captivity to attend nature call in the compound of Mr Armah.

Chief inspector Kofie said the classmate reported the incident to the school authorities who also informed the parents.

The prosecution said the parent further informed the police who went to the accused person and during search found the girl in one of the rooms of Mr Armah.

Chief Inspector Kofie said during police investigation, the girl told the police that the accused person had defiled her during the 10 day captivity in his room.

The prosecution said Mr Armah in his caution statement to the police admitted the offences and promised to bear responsibility of any pregnancy that may occur.
