Man Threatens To Burn US Embassy Over Visa

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly threatening to burn down the consular section of the American embassy in Accra. Samuel Akwei Allotey is also said to have threatened to set other US installations on fire after his second application for an American visa was turned down. Police officials say the threats have been taken very seriously because of last week’s attacks in New York and Washington.

Allotey, who works at Frankies Restaurant in Accra, said he made the offensive statements out of frustration after his second visa application was rejected. He said the Vice Consul did not give him the opportunity to respond to her questions and was persistently putting him off.

The US Embassy has, meanwhile served notice preventing Allotey from entering any of the American installation.
