Man remanded over illegal gun possession

A driver’s mate allegedly caught carrying an illegally manufactured local pistol has been ordered to be held in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. William Boampong.

Akwasi Amankwa, alias “Tremor”, pleaded not guilty to the offence of possessing firearm without authority.

He would make his next appearance on Tuesday, March 17.

Police Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor told the court that the accused was arrested on October 24, last year at about 1400 hours.

He said the police received information that Amankwa and seven others, now on the run, were quarreling over the locally manufactured gun at Pampaso and quickly moved in to seize the accused together with the weapon.

The other people, however, managed to slip through.
