Man remanded on alleged rape charge

Juaso (Ash), Feb 13, GNA – A 42-year-old man who is alleged to have raped a woman after offering her a drink that rendered her unconscious at Agogo in the Asante-Akim North District has been remanded by the Juaso circuit court.

Oti Boateng whose plea was not taken will re-appear on February 19.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Damanka told the court that Boateng was a hospital orderly at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital and also operated a drinking bar close to the hospital. On December 29 last year the complainant went to the hospital to visit a sick friend and asked for a Christmas gift from Boateng whom she was acquainted with.

Chief Inspector Damanka said the accused invited the complainant to his bar where he offered her a bottle of coca-cola. Moments after taking the drink, the complainant lost consciousness and regained it hours later but found that she was naked in Boateng’s bed.

The prosecution said Boateng’s fianc=E9e entered the room and upon seeing the complainant violently assaulted her until Boateng went to her rescue.

The complainant reported the case to the Agogo police who issued her a medical form to attend hospital.
