Man nabbed for attempting to mail drugs to London

Accra, Jan. 25, GNA – An Accra Regional Tribunal sitting as a Circuit Court, has remanded a 32-year old unemployed in Police custody for one week for attempting to post narcotic drugs to London. The plea of Kwame Owusu Sarfo was not taken when he appeared before the Court. The prosecution prayed it to adjourn the matter to January 31, because the Police was yet to receive a report on tests on the substance.

The facts of the case as narrated by the Prosecution were that on January 19 2006, security men on duty at the Cantonments Post Office conducted a search on two boxes, which the accused person had come to post.

The Prosecution said the search revealed that the boxes contained chewing sponges and 11 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Sarfo was first handed over to officials of the Bureau of National Investigations and then to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Police for investigations.

The Prosecution said the accused claimed one Joe was the one who asked him to mail the items to friends in the United Kingdom.
