Man murders wife over threat of divorce

Madam Mary Amofa, a 36 year old woman who decided to seek divorce for consistent beating by her husband has been allegedly murdered.

Her husband, Benjamin Teye, aged 40, a farmer and palm wine tapper who allegedly committed the gruesome crime, has been placed in police custody.

Her body has been deposited at the Sefwi-Wiawso government hospital for autopsy.

The District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raymond Erzuah in-charge of the Sefwi-Wiawso , told the Ghana News Agency that the couple has one child and lived at Mensah Adawu, near Kramokrom in the Sefwi-Wiawso district.

He said following incessant severe beating by the deceased’s husband over trivial issues, she decided to end their marriage and therefore left the matrimonial abode for her family home.

DSP Erzuah said the matter was settled amicably but Teye failed to provide the two pieces of textile and a fowl as compensation as requested at the arbitration.

According to the Police chief, Teye succeeded in luring Mary to the farm where he allegedly stabbed her to death and bolted.

Teye was however arrested in his hideout at Imamkrom near Enchi.
