Man linked to robbery attacks on students nabbed

The police have arrested a 27-year -old suspected criminal believed to be linked to robbery attacks on students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Joseph Aputaaba, unemployed, was seized at the Ayigya cemetery with an Italian-made revolver loaded with ammunition.

This comes amid stepped-up effort by the police to go after criminals, terrorizing and making life uncomfortable for the university community.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofo Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, said at a press briefing that the suspect was picked based on police intelligence.

He said they had been receiving reports on violent criminal attacks on students and people living close to the University campus and had scaled-up surveillance and intelligence gathering.

ACP Duku said they would take the fight to the miscreants, track them down to calm the community and allow members to carry out their activities.

He said Aputaaba would be arraigned as soon as the police finished with their investigations.
