George Nii Dodoo Blankson, a head porter in Aflao, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison by an Aflao Circuit Court for smearing himself and two border security operatives with human excreta in an escape bid.
Blankson, alias Yaro Badzi, 35 years, pleaded not guilty to assault and offensive conduct.
Police Chief Inspector Seth Apau, told the Court presided by Mr Yaw Owuahene-Acheampong that while on duty at the border post at about 0830 hours on March 20, Mr Humphrey Funkor a Plant Quarantine Officer, spotted Blankson attempting to pick-pocket an elderly man travelling to Lome – Togo, of his money and cautioned him to stop.
Mr Apau said Blankson then fled across the border into Lome. He said Blankson later emerged from the blind side of Mr Funkor and gave him hefty slap on his face and ran back to Lome where he was arrested three days later and sent back to Ghana.
Mr Apau said while being taken in a taxi to the police station, Blankson eased and smeared himself and the complainant and the police escorts with his excreta in an attempt to escape but was overpowered.
