Man jailed for raping a friend’s wife

Sefwi Asempa N’Eye (W/R) Jan. 4, GNA – A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Kwabena Dagarti, 30, a farm labourer to 24 years imprisonment on his own plea for raping a friend’s wife at Sefwi Asempa N’Eye. Police Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah told the court presided over by Mr. John Aject Nasam that the accused and the complainant a housewife was married to Doe Dagarti a friend to the accused all of them living at the village.

The Prosecutor said on December 8, last year, Doe informed the accused that he (Doe) was travelling to Sefwi Bonsu Nkwanta and would return the following day.

Police Chief Inspector Asamoah said, on December 11, three days later at about 1:00 am while the complainant was asleep in her room, the accused who was also sleeping with his wife, left his wife in their room and taking advantage of the absence of Doe forcibly opened the complainant’s door, entered the room, switched off the lantern and raped the complainant.

The prosecution said in the process the complainant shouted and the accused took to his heels but was arrested by members of the Unit Committee and handed over to the Police.
