Tarkwa (W/R), June 15, GNA- A circuit court at Tarkwa, has sentenced a 29-year-old galamsey operator, Kofi Kwarteng to eight years imprisonment for inflicting wounds on his girlfriend’s breast and arm with a blade, at Baidoo a community at Abosso-Kakoase near Tarkwa. He was sentenced on his own plea.

Inspector Florence Tawiah of Tarkwa Police told the court presided over by Justice John Ajet-Nasam that Kwarteng and the victim, Florence Baidoo, 23, have been lovers for more than five years. Prosecution said on May 25 this year, a misunderstanding arose between the two lovers and Kwarteng used a blade to inflict wounds on the victim’s left arm and breast.

Inspector Tawiah said a “Good Samaritan” who heard Baidoo shout for help went to rescue her and send her to the Tarkwa Government Hospital. Baidoo pleaded to the court to free Kwarteng but the judge said the crime committed by the accused was against the state and not an individual.
