Man jailed for causing harm to his girlfriend’s husband

Tema, July 13, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ on Thursday sentenced Emmanuel Arhinful to three years imprisonment for inflicting cutlass wounds on the husband of his girlfriend at Tema. Arhinful pleaded not guilty to causing unlawful harm. The prosecution’s case is that on January 11 this year, Mr Kojo Amendzi, the complainant went into Ahinful’s room to ascertain whether his wife was there.

He said Arhinful on seeing Amendzi eloped with his wife but told the Tema Community One police that Amendzi destroyed his (Arhinful) properties when Amendzi was left in the room.

The prosecution said Amendzi was therefore, arrested but later released on bail to bring his wife and Arhinful to the police station when they returned but Arhinful never reported to the police. He said on January 16, at about 2000 hours when Amendzi saw his wife and Arhinful in a dark corner near Arhinful’s house in a compromising situation, Amendzi informed the police.

The prosecution said following the report to the police, a quarrel ensued between Amendzi and Arhinful during which Arhinful rushed into his room, brought out a cutlass and inflicted several wounds on Amendzi. He said Arhinful went to the police station and reported that Amendzi had threatened him therefore he (Arhinful) in defending himself had inflicted cutlass wounds on Amendzi.

The prosecution said a ‘Good Samaritan’ assisted Amendzi who was in pain and blood oozing from the wounds to the police station where he also reported the incident.

He said during police investigations Arhinful was arrested and charged with the offence. The prosecution said Amendzi’s wife is on the run.
