Man jailed 4years for posing as police officer

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra on Thursday sentenced Isaac Kofi Boakye, a second hand clothes dealer to four years imprisonment for posing as a police officer. Boakye found with two self made police identity cards was facing four charges of forgery of documents, impersonation, defrauding by false pretences and stealing.

Earlier, he pleaded not guilty to the charges, but changed his plea and was convicted.

Police Inspector Michaels Jubiok told the court presided over by Mr Justice Joe Abanga that the complainant was Sarfo Gyima a mobile phone seller at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra.

He said Boakye had made two fake police identity cards and on August 13, this year, introduced himself as a police officer and arrested Sarfo and Kwadwo Duka near the head office of Vodafone, for allegedly selling three second hand Chinese phones.

The prosecution said after arresting them, Boakye took them to main gate of the Police Training School and demanded GHC100 cedis before releasing the phones to them.

He said they could not afford and gave Boakye GHC20 but he (Boakye) gave them two of the phones and requested that they bring the rest of the money before collecting the remaining phone. The prosecution said the following day; Sarfo spotted Boakye at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and informed the police at Holy Gardens who apprehended him.

He said Boakye produce the remaining phone but had spent the money and after investigations charged with the offences.
