Man jailed 10 years for possessing Indian Hemp

A 28-year old mason has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for possessing Indian hemp by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya District.

Joseph Kwaku Boakye who was additionally charged with assault pleaded not guilty.

Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei, told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah, that the complainant Mr Frank Nfodwo Kuma, is an auto electrician whiles the accused is a mason both residing at Atwima-Koforidua a town in the district.

He said on 15th January, at about 6:30 pm, a misunderstanding which ensued between the two ended in a fight and the accused after beating the complainant also threatened to kill him.

He said the complainant reported the case to the Akropong Police where he was given medical forms to report for medical care.

He said on the morning of 17th January, the Police arrested the accused and during a search on him one wrapper of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (WEE) was found on him.**
