Man jailed 10 years for illegally possession gun

Kumasi, March 23, GNA – Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly circuit court, has sentenced an unemployed man to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for illegally possession firearm and stealing a mobile phone. Abdul Aziz Osman, who was arrested with a locally manufactured pisto= l, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police Inspector Martin Assenso told the court presided over by Just= ice Adjei Frimpong that complainants were members of the Kumasi Race Course Neighbourhood Watch Committee.

The Prosecution said that on December 24, last year, members of the Committee arrested and handed over Osman to the Police. Insp. Assenso told the court that the Police acted upon a tip off th= at Osman and two other accomplices, on the run, were planning to undertake a robbery.

He said a search conducted on Osman uncovered a double-barrelled locally made pistol, loaded with two rounds of ammunition, a cutter, tow spare ammunitions, mouse trap and a Kasapa cell phone. Insp. Assenso said that the Police was able to trace the owner of the ce= ll phone.

The court ordered that the items seized from Osman should be destroyed a= nd the cell phone returned to the owner.
