Man in court for “fingering” minor

A 25-year-old “bookman” was on Tuesday put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly “fingering” a four-year-old girl.

Charged with indecent assault, Akwasi Berko pleaded not guilty.

Berko was granted bail in the sum of GH 5,000 cedis with one surety to reappear on January 29.

The court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah ordered Berko to be reporting to the Police every Friday.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Veronica Offei told the court that on December 18 while the victim was playing with a witness in the case and other children, Berko lured the victim into a kiosk under the pretext of sending her to buy sachet water.

Chief Inspector Offei said as soon as the victim entered the kiosk, Berko locked the kiosk and undressed the victim and indecently assaulted her.

He gave the victim GH10 pesewas and asked the victim to go home.

Prosecution said the victim rushed home and reported the incident to her mother and a complaint was lodged with the Nungua Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU), and Berko was arrested.
