Man impregnates niece

The Ashaiman branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service is holding a 27-year-old factory hand who defiled and impregnated his niece, a 14-year-old primary-four pupil at Ashaiman.

Agbesi Zutonyo allegedly penetrated his grand-niece whom he shared a single room apartment with, while the victim’s mother had travelled, to satisfy his libido.

The suspect is the uncle of the mother of the victim.

Sources close to the Ashaiman DOVVSU told DAILY GUIDE that last year, the victim’s mother travelled to their hometown, leaving behind her daughter, the suspect’s wife and children in a single room they occupied.

While everyone was asleep, Zutonyo undressed and had sexual intercourse with the victim who was then sleeping. The victim was said to have felt some weird movement in her and quickly woke up, only to find her grand-uncle busily satisfying his libido.

The 14-year-old pupil then raised the alarmed which compelled the suspect’s wife in the room to wake up to find her husband standing naked in the room with an erection.

Family members allegedly intervened and decided to resolve the matter amicably, after the suspect had admitted to the offence and agreed to provide for the girl. He also agreed to take care of an eight-month pregnancy which was as a result of the intercourse.

However, Zutonyo failed to fulfil his promise; therefore a report was made to the Ashaiman DOVVSU office in February this year. Zutonyo was subsequently arrested by the police on March 5, 2013.

ASP Jennifer Bolah, Ashaiman DOVVSU Coordinator, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, adding that Zutonyo admitted to the offence and indicated that “he wanted to marry his grand-niece because he loved her more”.

She noted that the suspect would be quickly arraigned for prosecution to begin.
