Man gets two years for cruelty to animal

Elmina, Mar. 22, GNA- A 27-year-old fisherman at Elmina, Papa Bosompim, who twisted the legs of a pregnant sheep, leading to its death a day later, was on Friday sentenced to two years imprisonment for cruelty to animal, by a district court at Elmina. He pleaded guilty.

The prosecution had earlier told the court that last Wednesday, the owner of the sheep, valued at 300,000 cedis, let it out with others to graze at Nyanta, a suburb of Elmina and that the pregnant sheep strayed into an uncompleted building.

It said, Bosompim, who was lurking around, caught it and twisted its legs, but a passer-by raised the alarm and he was arrested. Passing sentence, the presiding judge, Mr Kwame Ohene Essel described the convict as a “very wicked person”.
